Campaign for Real Ale

Campaign for Real Ale

Pub of the Year

Members vote for the Branch’s entries in the Good Beer Guide (GBG) which are then surveyed and marked in accordance with the GBG guidelines to ensure that they are compliant and worthy of inclusion. Out of more than 130 contenders, the Branch currently selects 12 in the Wiltshire and 1 in the South Gloucestershire sections.

The top 6 of our GBG entries are then scored by a Pub of the Year (PotY) committee in accordance with the National Guidelines. Scores are awarded in six different categories including quality of beer, focus on CAMRA issues, Community focus, value for money, atmosphere/style/décor, service, and welcome.

This process determines our Branch PotY which then goes forward to the Regional competition where we are also involved in surveying those pubs chosen by other Branches in our Region.

Our local rules don’t permit a pub to win for more than 2 years' running.
